Detailed Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the RRB NTPC examination, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Nationality

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • They can also be subjects of Nepal or Bhutan.
  • Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible.
  • Persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zaire, or Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in India are eligible, provided they hold an eligibility certificate.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification depends on the category of the post:

  • Undergraduate Posts: Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Matriculation plus Higher Secondary) or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or Institution.
  • Graduate Posts: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Specific Requirements: Some posts might have additional specific educational qualifications or degree requirements, such as a degree in a particular field for certain graduate-level positions.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Maximum Age: The maximum age limit is typically 30 or 33 years, depending on the post and the specified cut-off date. Age relaxation is provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government rules.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
    • Persons with Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years
    • Ex-Servicemen: Actual period of service in defence plus 3 years.
    • Candidates with 3 years of continuous service in Central Government: Upper age limit relaxable by 3 years.

RRB NTPC Syllabus Breakdown

The RRB NTPC selection process involves multiple stages, each testing different aspects of a candidate’s knowledge and skills.

First Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-1)

CBT-1 is a general aptitude test to screen candidates for the next stage. It consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be answered in 90 minutes.

    • Analogies, Number and Alphabetical Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions.
  • General Awareness:
    • Current Events (National and International)
    • History of India
    • Geography of India
    • Indian Polity and Constitution
    • Indian Economy
    • Sports
    • Science and Technology
    • Famous Personalities
    • Arts and Culture
    • Awards and Honors.

Second Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-2)

CBT-2 is a more advanced test, assessing candidates in greater depth. It consists of 120 MCQs to be answered in 90 minutes. The syllabus is similar to CBT-1 but with increased difficulty and emphasis.

  • Mathematics: Advanced topics in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics.

Typing Skill Test (TST)

Negative Marking: In both CBT-1 and CBT-2, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd mark for each incorrect answer.
