Detailed Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

The applying candidate must be a citizen of India and a domicile of Karnataka State to be eligible to apply for the recruitment examination. Preference is given to candidates with Karnataka domicile as per state reservation policies.

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for KPSC Recruitment Exam must have completed any degree from a recognized university or institute. The specific requirements include:

  • General Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university in India
  • Candidates who have written degree exams but are awaiting results are also allowed to apply for the exam. However, the selection process won’t move forward until the degree course has been successfully completed.
  • Final-year students can apply provisionally but must produce degree certificates before document verification
  • Equivalent qualifications from foreign universities are accepted if recognized by the Association of Indian Universities
  • The applicants must be proficient in the Kannada Language.

Age Limit

The age range for applicants for KPSC recruitment exam is 21 to 35. There will be some age relaxations for candidates in the reserved categories. The detailed age criteria are as follows:

  • General Category: 21 to 35 years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): Up to 37 years (2 years relaxation)
  • SC/ST: Up to 40 years (5 years relaxation)
  • Physically Handicapped: For candidates taking the KPSC exam who are physically disabled or widowed, there is a 10-year age relaxation.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Additional relaxation as per government norms
  • Age is calculated as of January 1 of the examination year

Attempt Limit

The KPSC KAS Exam has a total of 5 attempts. You have a maximum of 5 chances to pass the Gazetted Probationers exam for General Merit candidates. If you fall under the OBC category you are qualified for an additional two tries, bringing your total permitted tries up to seven.

Main Examination Syllabus

  • For the Essay paper, the exam duration is of 3 hrs and maximum marks are 250. There will be two essays (Kannada or English) of 125 marks each · The first topic will be on national or international issues

Papers IV-VIII – General Studies (200 marks each)

  • General Studies I: Indian Heritage, Culture, History, and Society
  • General Studies II: Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International Relations
  • General Studies III: Technology, Economic Development, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management
  • General Studies IV: Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude
  • Paper VIII: Optional Subject (candidates choose from prescribed list)

Paper IX – Optional Subject (200 marks)
Candidates choose one optional subject from subjects like History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Public Administration, Psychology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, etc.

Interview/Personality Test

  • Entry Level (Tehsildar/Assistant Director): ₹75,000-₹90,000 per month
  • Mid-Level Officers: ₹95,000-₹1,25,000 per month
  • Senior Level: ₹1,50,000+ per month
