Detailed Eligibility Criteria

  1. Nationality
  • A candidate must be either:
    • A citizen of India, or
    • A subject of Nepal, or
    • A subject of Bhutan, or
    • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma (now Myanmar), Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Surinam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  1. Educational Qualification
  • Minimum Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent.
  • Essential Qualification Date: Candidates must possess the required educational qualification on or before the specified cut-off date mentioned in the official notification.
  • Percentage Requirement: Typically, there is no minimum percentage requirement for the Bachelor’s degree; passing the degree is sufficient.
  • Computer Knowledge: Candidates should have a working knowledge of computer systems, i.e., they must have received training in computer operations/language or have computer knowledge as a subject in their matriculation or higher degree examination.
  1. Age Limit
  • General Age Limit: Typically between 20 to 28 years as of a specified cut-off date (e.g., born between 02.07.1996 and 01.07.2005 for the 2025 cycle).

  • Permissible Age Relaxation (as per Government of India rules; subject to documentary proof):
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years

    • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): 3 years after deduction of military service from actual age.

The IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in two phases: Preliminary and Main.

Phase 1: IBPS Clerk Preliminary Examination

  • Nature: Objective Type.
  • Total Marks: 100.
  • Time Duration: 1 hour.
  • Sections: 3 sections.
  1. English Language
  • Topics: Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Spotting Errors, Sentence Improvement, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms and Antonyms, Sentence Rearrangement, Para Jumbles, Idioms and Phrases.
  1. Quantitative Aptitude
  • Topics: Number Series, Simplification/Approximation, Quadratic Equations, Data Interpretation (Tables, Charts, Graphs), Mensuration, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest & Compound Interest, Time and Work, Work and Wages, Pipes and Cisterns, Time, Speed & Distance, Boats & Streams, Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Ratio & Proportion, Averages, Percentage.
  1. Reasoning Ability
  • Topics: Puzzles (Seating Arrangement, Floor-based, etc.), Syllogism, Inequalities, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Input-Output, Coding-Decoding, Data Sufficiency, Verbal Reasoning (Statement & Assumption, Statement & Conclusion, Statement & Course of Action).

Phase 2: IBPS Clerk Main Examination

Local Language Proficiency Test

  • Candidates qualifying in the Main Examination will have to appear for a test in the Official / Local Language of the State/UT where they have applied.
